In Singapore, two individuals of Indian nationality, Brahmbhatt Komal Chetankumar and Christian Arpita Arvindbhai, both 27 years old, have been incarcerated for orchestrating the theft of clothing valued at over ₹1 lakh from a retail establishment. This verdict follows the recent sentencing of four accomplices in the same case. Initially denying any intention to steal, Komal and Arpita ultimately pleaded guilty to shoplifting. They received prison terms of 40 and 45 days, respectively, with the sentencing pronounced on Friday, as reported by The Straits Times.

Residing in Singapore on student passes, Komal and Arpita were part of a group of six Indians conspiring to pilfer clothing. The scheme involved removing price tags with radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags during an October visit to the store. Using tote bags purchased at the self-checkout area, the group concealed the stolen items, attempting to evade the store’s security alarm.

The pilfered merchandise amounted to 64 pieces of clothing valued at 1,788 Singapore dollars. Authorities were alerted when a second attempt, involving members of the initial group, was made to steal clothing worth 2,271 Singapore dollars from the same outlet days later. The subsequent investigation, aided by CCTV camera footage, led to the arrest of the perpetrators, underscoring Singapore’s commitment to maintaining security and upholding the law.
